Happy Monday, everyone! There’s a good bit to catch up on today: a new look at the Steam Frame’s face plate, some backend movement on the reservation system, and a gameplay showcase that’s got me pretty excited. Let’s get into it.
A Closer Look at That Cherry Red Face Plate
First up, we finally have a clearer picture of what the Steam Frame’s face plate could look like, and I have to say, this one is gorgeous. It’s a cherry red finish, and I’m honestly a big fan of the color. I don’t know yet whether this is a customized plate or the standard look every Steam Frame will ship with, but either way, it’s a great sign for how much personality Valve is willing to put into this thing. Drop your thoughts on the color in the comments below.
The Reservation System Is Already Live in the Backend
As we get closer to what’s rumored to be a September 14th unveiling (still just speculation at this point, so don’t hold me to it), it looks like Valve is quietly prepping the backend for launch. Leaker Brad Lynch reports that part of the reservation system is already set up in Steam’s backend for both Steam Frame SKUs. That’s a positive sign that things are moving, but my hope is that Valve has learned from the Steam Machine’s reservation rollout, which was rough to put it mildly. I’ve got a friend who reserved one at launch and still hasn’t received it. Here’s hoping the Steam Frame goes a lot smoother.
Bootstrap Island Shows Off Steam Frame’s Features
Finally, the developers behind Bootstrap Island put out a video showing their game running on Steam Frame, and it’s a genuinely good showcase of what the headset can do. It covers wireless streaming through the Wi-Fi dongle, foveated streaming, and finger tracking, basically a solid cross-section of Steam Frame’s headline features working together. It’s got me even more excited to try one for myself.
Plenty to be optimistic about here. Let me know what you’re most looking forward to, and I’ll see you in the next one.
