Marvel’s Wolverine is a PS5 exclusive, but you don’t need to own a PS5 to play it on your Steam Deck or Steam Machine. Thanks to a third-party streaming app called Asobi Remote Play, PlayStation Plus Premium’s cloud gaming can now be beamed straight to Steam hardware, no console required. Here’s how it works and what to expect.
What you need
The whole setup runs through Asobi Remote Play, a free app available on Steam right now as a pre-release playtest. It isn’t affiliated with Sony in any way, but it taps into PlayStation Plus Premium’s cloud streaming, the same tech behind the PlayStation Portal, and brings it to Steam Deck and Steam Machine instead. You’ll need an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription for the streaming to work.
Buying and launching the game
You don’t need a PS5 to pick up the game either. Open the PlayStation app on your phone, find Marvel’s Wolverine, and hit buy. Once it’s purchased, it shows up automatically inside Asobi Remote Play. From there, open the app on your Steam Deck or Steam Machine, select Wolverine, and hit play to start streaming.
Streaming quality
Streaming quality depends on your PlayStation Plus tier. The free tier streams at 1080p and 30 FPS, while Premium steps that up to 1080p at 60 FPS with HDR, 4K upscaling, manual bitrate control, controller haptics, and lower latency. Pricing for Asobi’s own premium features hasn’t been announced yet, so everything is free to use while the app is still in its Steam playtest phase, which makes right now a great time to try it out.
Being able to stream a PS5 exclusive like Marvel’s Wolverine straight to a Steam Deck or Steam Machine without buying a PS5 is a genuinely useful trick, especially while Asobi’s premium tier is free during the playtest. Worth setting up if you’ve been wanting to play Wolverine but don’t own Sony’s console.
