By If you were hoping to jump into Minecraft Dungeons 2 on the Steam Deck today, I have bad news. The game relies on Microsoft gaming services that aren’t compatible with SteamOS, which means there’s currently no way of getting it running on Steam Deck, Steam Machine or any other SteamOS device.
What happens when you launch it
The game goes through a startup process before eventually loading and asking whether you want to install Microsoft gaming services. As soon as you click yes, the screen goes black and you get kicked straight back to the start. How long that startup section takes varies, but the end result is always the same.
Proton versions I tried
I tried all the different types of compatibility layers I could, including GE-Proton, DW-Proton and Proton Experimental. No matter which one I used, the game hit the same Microsoft gaming services prompt and failed in the same way.
Final thoughts
No fixes have been found so far, so it’s unlucky news for Minecraft Dungeons 2 fans. There’s no Steam Deck or SteamOS gaming for this one for now, but I’ll keep an eye out in case a Proton update or a change from the developers gets it working.
